Mason, OH – The Grizzly Golf and Social Lodge announces the first annual Mason Golf Classic benefiting the Mason Food Pantry on Saturday, July 2, 2022 – Part of the 50th Anniversary Celebration Program.

The Grizzly golf course turns 50th this year and to honor this incredible anniversary, we’re inviting golfers from around the region to walk in the path of legends and compete to win! The tournament will be held at The Grizzly Golf and Social Lodge, located in Mason, OH. The individual stroke play tournament includes Mens, Womens, Juniors, and Seniors divisions and golfers will be flighted based on GHIN handicap.

Fees for entry range from $65 -$100 which include greens fees, cart fee, lunch, range balls, gifts, and awards. Registration is currently open and the deadline to apply is June 24th at midnight.

The golf tournament is part of the 50th Anniversary Program and will establish an annual event and campaign to raise funds, promote, and support non-profit initiatives in the City of Mason.

“The Mason Golf Classic will become a fun and important annual event to support local organizations in Mason,” says PGA Head Professional Andy Horn. “This year, the event will benefit the Mason Food Pantry – an organization in our community that provides food, healthcare, products, and more to individuals and families who have come into financial hardship and need assistance.”

The 50th Anniversary Mason Golf Classic is presented by the Woods Agency and generously supported by the following sponsors: Benjamin Best Freight, ECO Development, JK Excavating & Utilities, Mason Athletic Alumni Association, Mason Basketball, McCabe Lumber, NixCo Plumbing Inc., Olson & Wilson Private Capital, Recreation Management Services, RedKey Express, R.E. The Mission of the Mason Good Pantry is to provide basic food and health care items on a temporary basis to those in need. They serve as an interim support facility rather than a long-term solution. Their services are provided in a respectful, dignified, and cheerful manner to all who knock on their door. St. Louis, MO – The LNGA is happy to announce the host sites for the 93rd Amateur Championship and 3rd Mid-Amateur and Senior Championships. The Grizzly Golf and Social Lodge will host the 93rd LNGA Amateur Championship from July 24-27 in Mason, OH. The 3rd LNGA Mid-Amateur and Senior Championships will be held at The Golf Club at Champions Circle in Fort Worth, TX from October 16-19.

The Grizzly Golf and Social Lodge is a public course that was founded in 1972 and contains a rich history. It was originally designed by the partnership of Jack Nicklaus and Desmond Muirhead, just the 3rd course designed by the pair. Jay Morrish is also listed as an architect for the course. After its opening, Jack Nicklaus played a role in getting the PGA Tour to his course. The PGA Tour held the Ohio Kings Island Open from 1973 to 1977, until the LPGA moved its Championship (now known as the Women’s PGA Championship) to the course from 1978 through 1989. Over this time, the course saw the likes of Nancy Lopez (3x), Donna Caponi (2x), Sally Little, Jan Stephenson, Patty Sheehan (2x), Pat Bradley, Jane Geddes, and Sherri Turner lift the trophy. From 1980 through 2001, the Senior Tour brought its players through Mason for championships including the Kroger Senior Classic from 1990-2001. The course plays to a Par 71 and has a maximum yardage of 6,474.

Mayor Barbara Spaeth provided this statement about the LNGA holding the Amateur Championship in Mason: “The Grizzly has a rich history for women’s golf hosting the LPGA Championship from 1978-1989. We are excited for the return of a women’s golf tournament to The Grizzly Golf and Social Lodge in Mason. This event complements the array of regional, national, and international events residents and businesses in Mason enjoy and furthers our mission for building a culture of community wellness.”

Deep in the heart of Fort Worth, TX, The Golf Club at Champions Circle resides. First opened in 2000, the course sits on a former cattle ranch. The original design was created by Greg Norman, and was redesigned in 2002 by Jay Morrish. In just its short time, the course has undergone changes in the design and name. Upon its founding, the course was The Creeks at Beechwood until being changed to Doral Tesoro Golf Club, followed by the current name. With the lay of the land, the course contains rolling hills and a peaceful atmosphere with natural creeks and oak-lined fairways. This public course has a maximum of 6,487 yards and plays to a Par 71.

Michael Miller, Director of Golf at The Golf Club at Champions Circle, had this to say about hosting the Mid-Amateur and Senior Championships, “We are extremely excited to partner with the Ladies National Golf association to bring these two prestigious tournaments to Champions Circle. Mason, OH – The Grizzly Golf & Social Lodge Announces National Women’s Amateur Championship in July of 2023

The Grizzly Golf and Social Lodge and the Ladies National Golf Association (LNGA) are proud to announce The Grizzly as the host site for the 93rd Amateur Championship on July 25-27th in Mason, OH.

The LNGA focuses on hosting elite tournaments that grow the game, and their participants and Champions are the kind who make golf history. The national event will bring 100-120 players from across the country to compete in the 93rd Amateur Championship. Some recent champions include Rachel Kuehn, Megan Stasi, Julie Yang, and Sarah Ingram, among many other icons of the game such as Nancy Lopez, Judy Bell, Babe Zaharias, and Patty Berg.

The Grizzly Golf and Social Lodge was selected because it shares the values and goals of the LNGA including providing ways to grow women’s golf, the golf course is a great test of the game, and the club has an incredible history of hosting elite championships.
