ABOUT THE GRIZZLY

The Grizzly Golf and Social Lodge is a public course that was founded in 1972. It was originally designed by the partnership of Jack Nicklaus and Desmond Muirhead and was the 3rd course designed by the pair. Jay Morrish is also listed as an architect for the course. After its opening, Jack Nicklaus played a role in getting the PGA Tour to his course. The PGA Tour held the Ohio Kings Island Open from 1973 to 1977, until the LPGA moved its Championship (now known as the Women’s PGA Championship) to the course from 1978 through 1989.

Over this time, the course saw the likes of Nancy Lopez (3x), Donna Caponi (2x), Sally Little, Jan Stephenson, Patty Sheehan (2x), Pat Bradley, Jane Geddes, and Sherri Turner lift the trophy. From 1980 through 2001, the Senior Tour brought its players through Mason for championships including the Kroger Senior Classic from 1990-2001. The course plays to a Par 71 and has a maximum yardage of 6,474. In 2022, the course rebranded as The Grizzly Golf and Social Lodge as part of it’s 50th Anniversary.
